It's voting day tomorrow here in Portsmouth (and many surrounding cities), and in addition to updating my Local Politics info page, I thought I'd give a shoutout to our creative city's sign designs.
The first really cool design I saw was on Tristan Law's campaign handouts, drawn by the talented Kenley Darling:
I love the concept—warmly embracing the seaport city.
Next, I noticed Chris Dwyer's sign on a walk around town the other day:
Is it me, or does the arrangement of buildings and negative space in the letters of her name suggest a steeple? This tickled my fancy quite a bit. I just love our North Church.
Another candidate with well-designed materials is Stefany Shaheen. I've admired the clean, friendly look of the few mailings that my roommates and I have received at our house, but really loved this design I saw on Facebook today:

I love the mix between modern typeface and the old newsprint style of the iconic Piscataqua waterfront (hi, new bridge!).
Lastly, talk of creative signage cannot exclude Jim Splaine. Sadly, I haven't yet snapped a photo of these signs, as I generally notice them while driving and I do NOT condone phone usage while operating a moving vehicle, but I'll shoot one later and update here. [UPDATE: thanks to Jason at the Patch for sending in this great pic!]

Splaine has reused handmade signs from past elections, and even had some local young artists help out in the making of his signage. Creative indeed.
I would expect no less from our wonderful city. Be sure to cast your vote this week for your next community leaders!
